THISTLES OF SAZAK

HESA FREDRIK

02.09 min.

eng: A blatant sound and event mixing with the crash of different meanings of worlds. Fake Rio Carnivals street show and Afghan immigrants hunger strike with “Hesa Fredrik” at the same time on center of Stockholm.  The title Hesa Fredrik aimed at war sirens that sounds at 15:00 first Monday of each month at Stockholm and all big cities of Sweden.

Hasbelkader İsveç’in şimdiki Başbakanı ile adaş…)

WHY NOT? / NEDEN OLMASIN?

04.19 min.

eng: “Why not?” is a one of the little suggestion for Stockholms daily life: On the subway, instead of so “clear” swedish voice, 15 years Swedish immigrant’s accent announcements… It seems to be innocent to you I know, but you can’t imagine how a strong taboo is that  in Sweden.

tr: “Neden olmasın?”, sayısının bayağı kabarık olduğunu -yüz binleri bulduğunu- düşündüğüm gizli ve tabii ki diğer az sayıdaki bilinir, gürünür isveç ırkçısının kabusu olabilecek çok basit bir öneriyi, olasılığı kurguluyor: Metroların kaydedilmiş, yol yordam, durak belirtir mükemmel isveççe konuşan kadın sesinin, 25 yıldır buralarda yaşayan bir göçmenin sesiyle yer değiştirmesi. Küçük bir aksan sorunu yani sadece!

CATHARSIS

(Recording one)

05.17 min / Stockholm, May 2008 / Hakan Akçura

eng: Gamla Stan is the center area of Stockholm. Oldest and more touristic zone of the city.

Other side of the Gamla Stan subway station is seeing inland sea, have a nice panorama but trashy…

When I recorded some scenes at this area a few young men which were high came up to me and wanted to do “rap” in front of my camera.

I said: “Okay!” and recorded them.

I was only a recorder and a witness.

All big cities in Europe need this kind of purifications. Immigrants could help.

I’m sure.

MR. PRESIDENT LET ME CHALLENGE TO YOU FACE HIS (1- 2)

(A suggestion of nightmare for G. W. Bush)

A neo-fluxus art interference

04.19 min / Stockholm, 9.1.2007 and 15.1.2007 / Hakan Akçura

Transformed and re-edited anonymous mobile phone records of Saddam Hussein’s execution.

Caution: This artistic video include brutal images.

About:

“Akçura is an artist who doesn’t keep his views to himself. The execution of ousted Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein’s affected him deeply and he aroused a bit of international interest when he changed the face of the overthrown Iraqi leader lying in the morgue with that of U.S. President George W. Bush. He posted the video on Youtube.

Two experimental videos titled ‘Mr. President let me challenge you to face his,’ which show Bush in a provocative way during the execution process of Saddam made it to the most watched videos section of the ‘Arts and Animations’ category rapidly in January. But not for long.

The videos were taken off the Web site with claims that the video embraced violence. Akçura said: ‘It was said that my video included violence. It was virtual, yet the real execution images were displayed to billions of people on TVs everyday hundreds of times.’ The artist says that he sent the video to the White House as part of his virtual campaign for justice.

After Youtube blocked his work, the artist posted the video on Google Video. He mentions that they also blocked it after a short period and his reaction is ‘My search for justice got stuck in virtual censor.’

Akçura’s censored video has been shown at the New York Scope Art Fair 2007.”

  1. I don’t necessarily agree with the above post, and would like to take to task a few of the OP’s points. Not everyone will see it this way and though I am one of them, I do respect your right to have your view. Either way I have enjoyed reading Video and performances Hakan Akcura – Open Flux.
